Bio
Adam Thomas is a trombonist, composer, and arranger with a passion for diverse musical genres. He graduated in 2023 with a Master’s in Performance from the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied under Lindsay Shilling, Byron Fulcher, and Richard Edwards. Prior to that, Adam earned his Bachelor’s degrees in both Jazz Studies and Performance from the University of North Texas (UNT), studying with Tony Baker and Nick Finzer.
Currently, Adam is on tour with Chicago the Musical's UK and Ireland tour. He has performed with a variety of prestigious ensembles, including the London Musical Theatre Orchestra, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, and the Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, Adam frequently performs with various jazz groups, having played at iconic venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Spice of Life, Pizza Express, and the Bull’s Head.
Adam's musical journey has included attending renowned programs such as the Eastern Music Festival, Brevard Jazz Music Festival, Music Academy International, and the Georgia Trombone Summit.
A dedicated musician from a young age, Adam began his musical journey in the 6th grade and was mentored in high school by Dr. Mark Foster and Dr. Brandon Slocumb. He participated in the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame’s Saturday classes and the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra, as well as the State of Alabama’s All-State ensembles in Jazz, Orchestra, and Band. He was also selected for the NAfME 2014 All-National Jazz Band and the NAfME 2016 All-National Orchestra.
While at UNT, Adam fully embraced the opportunities available to him, performing with several notable ensembles, including the Latin Jazz Band, the 2 O’clock Lab Band, UNT Concert Orchestra, UNT Opera, UNT U-Tubes, and the UNT Trombone Consortium. His time at UNT was highlighted by his involvement in the North Texas Trombone Consortium, which won the 2021 Emory Remington Trombone Choir Competition, and the U-Tubes, winners of the 2021 Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition.
As a composer and arranger, Adam’s works have been performed by the UNT U-Tubes Jazz Trombone Ensemble, showcasing his skill and creativity in the field.
